Design Philosphy

Many people ask me to describe my golf course design style. Not intending to sidestep the question, I respond that I do not have a single design style. My designs are tailored to each individual project. For example, each site is different from the last and offers unique challenges and opportunities. My designs strive to make best use of the natural features on the site. Additionally each client has different priorities, goals, needs and budgets and my designs are geared to meet the client’s objectives.

My designs are tailored to each individual project and strive to make best use of the natural features on the site.

One thing that does not change from one project to the next is my deep respect for the game of golf, its traditions and belief that the strategy of golf is the core of the game. In addition to being aesthetically pleasing and providing the best possible playing surfaces, golf courses should be designed with a level of strategic sophistication requiring golfers to think. Both the mental and physical component of the golfer’s ability should be tested. Players should be rewarded for taking certain risks and always be given multiple options or routes to play each hole. David Johnson Golf Design, LLC firmly stands behind these classic, strategic design principles and believes that by adhering to them each course will provide the ultimate challenge and enjoyment for players of all abilities.
